About us
Botswana's first labour college
Established in 2016 and accredited by the Botswana Qualifications Authority, ILES is building a centre of excellence for labour and employment studies.
ILES is an institute wholly owned by the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU). It was established in 2016 and was registered and accredited as an Education and Training Provider (ETP) by the Botswana Qualifications Authority in 2017. Being the first labour college in the country, ILES has the opportunity to explore the unchartered terrain of labour and employment studies, and to attract the attention of researchers, academia, development partners and experts in labour and employment issues.
The institute intends to leverage the goodwill it receives from this pool of experts and development partners, and to develop into a centre of excellence on matters of training and research on labour and employment — not only in Botswana but also in the region. ILES aims to empower the working population with relevant education and training on labour law and employment law, including work ethics.
