ILES — Institute for Labour and Employment Studies

What we offer

Services

Beyond its accredited programmes, ILES offers a range of services to trade unions, federations, employers and the wider public — from training and assessment to consulting, research and facility hire.

Training

ILES offers both long-term programmes and short-course trainings. The long-term programmes are the Certificate in Paralegal Studies (1 year) and the Diploma in Labour Law (2 years), delivered through full-time, part-time, block-release (weekends) and online learning, with two intakes a year in January and July. Short-course trainings run for two days each and are available online or in person.

Training & Assessment

Training subjects include in-depth analysis of ILO conventions and the statutes on labour law and related fields, exclusive to ILES.

Consulting

ILES strives to develop and offer innovative products responsive to global trends through its consultancy services. Through its Research and Development Department, the institute consults on specialised and targeted labour and employment contexts — helping organisations in both the public and private sector achieve their full growth potential by tackling a diverse range of labour and employment matters. ILES also offers consultation through private mediation and the chairing of disciplinary hearings. The consultancy is inclusive, participatory, and prioritises inputs from staff, beneficiaries and other key stakeholders, combining contextual analysis, research on best practices, focus groups, interviews and surveys, with monitoring and evaluation elements used to refine the project plan and recommendations.

Facility Hire

The ILES premises at Plot 931, African Mall in Gaborone offer facilities for hire to the public. The institute has three classrooms where training activities take place, each with a seating capacity of 25 learners. Our resource centre is the hub of reading material across various subject areas, with a deliberate bias towards labour and employment content, administered by a qualified and dedicated librarian. The study room offers a serene environment conducive to concentrated reading and research. Boardroom and classrooms are available for hire at a fee.
