Disciplinary Hearing & Grievance Procedure

RATIONALE

A significant number of organisations in Botswana receive costly compensation orders from the Industrial Court and High Court due to management failing to comply with the law and good practice regarding disciplinary matters. This in turn impacts negatively on the image of such organisations as well as labour relations and productivity. The deficiency is not knowing how to handle discipline in the workplace.

PURPOSE

The aim of this course is to equip employees with a practical hands-on approach to dealing with discipline and grievances in the workplace.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and importance of discipline in the workplace
  • Know the statutes regulating the management of discipline and grievances
  • Know what amounts to misconduct and how to classify misconduct
  • Describe the disciplinary & grievance procedures fairly and equitably
  • Analyse available evidence when conducting investigations and formulating charges
  • Apply practical skills of conducting a disciplinary hearing
