Fundamentals of Employment Contract

RATIONALE

A proper appreciation of the principles of contract employment is crucial to those who enter in employment contracts and to those who deal with contracts on a regular basis. Such knowl- edge allows them to enter into contracts armed with sufficient knowledge as regard to pros and cons of its terms. It there- fore reduces future conflicts between parties (employer and employee) as regard to performance under contract of employ- ment. This course is aimed at equipping trainees with the req- uisite skills and knowledge as regard to the fundamental princi- ples relating to a contract of employment.

PURPOSE

The aim of this course is to provide a sound understanding ofย the laws regulating the contract of employment.

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Define a contract of service/employment
  • Describe the content of a contract of service;
  • Describe common law and statutory obligations owed by employees and employers under the contract and the impact of the statute on this contract.
  • Explain how a contract of service is terminated.
