HIV/AIDS Awareness in the Workplace

RATIONALE

HIV/AIDS is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. In the last decade, the world of work has been recognized as a key arena where the battle against HIV/AIDS could be carried out. It is therefore important that employees know how to respond. This course is designed for employees to understand the issues surrounding HIV/AIDS in the context of the applica- tion of the ILO, SADC and National code of practice on HIV/AIDS so as to shape workplace policies and programmes to combat HIV/AIDS.

PURPOSE

The aim of this course is to equip employees with the basicย knowledge and skills to be able to manage HIV/AIDS in theย workplace as well as the stigma that follows through.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the HIV/AIDS situation in Botswana;
  • Show understanding of the country policy and legal framework in managing HIV/AIDS in the workplace;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current policies;
  • Show an understanding of the HIV/AIDS Code of Good Practice at the workplace;
  • Apply the ILO, SADC and the National Code on HIV/AIDS at the workplace;
  • Develop workplace HIV/AIDS policies.
